what am i currently playing

right now i'm playing earthbound! i've always wanted to play this game and recently, new games have been no fun at all. don't get me started on that, man. earthbound is a SNES JRPG where you play as a kid (i named my character ANGRY) who is tasked by a time-traveling bee to destroy an ancient evil alien named Giygas and save the world.

does that sound like a doozy? it sure is! The gameplay is your classic JRPG mechanics with a little flare, so it's a comfy experience. The real gold is in the world and the characters—the game has such a cool art style, and the music is funky and even features samples from pop music of the time, like Beat It.

I think I have a penchant for stories about kids saving the world — my favorite manga ever is 20th Century Boys, which is similarly about a group of kids that have to save the world. I've always loved stories about kids, and the combo of that childlike energy with UFOs and all the other crazy stuff in Earthbound keeps me coming back.
